I am a certified teacher with more than a decade of experience in classrooms - both online and in person. I have a master's degree in education from Eastern University and I tutor grades PK-5.
I know first hand how important it is to meet students where they are on their learning journey. My own teachers growing up didn't know what to do with me - an energetic daydreamer with a list of questions a mile long! So I got pushed along, without receiving the help I needed. As a teacher, I am passionate about advocating for students and their needs. I love the challenge of adapting to various learning styles and seeing the excitement when learning changes from a chore to a success!
One of my favorite success stories involves a student who came to me hating math! Her body language and her tone of voice told me everything I need to know about how she felt. So, I started at the beginning - just getting to know her! After building up a good relationship and incorporating math problems and activities that met her needs and her interest levels, she started to ask for more. This continued throughout the summer. When she started back up at school in the fall, her mother contacted me a few weeks in and told me her daughter was so excited and so confident about what she was learning in math that she started a math club! This girl went from hating math to boldly and confidently sharing her newfound knowledge with her classmates! I'm sure I couldn't have been more proud of her!
When I'm not tutoring, I love to read! I love Star Wars (both the books and movies), Disney movies, Dungeons and Dragons, and Lisa Frank. I love storytelling and writing. I make my own jewelry using clay and resin. I also love to hang out with my kids! We go biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, and shopping as often as we can. I also have several items I collect - unique salt shakers, Beauty and the Beast characters, rainbow decorations, dice sets, and more! I also hate to garden but I love taking care of my house plants!
