I am a certified teacher with experience in a traditional classroom and tutoring adult learners. I taught high school mathematics in Arizona, and I tutored mathematics while I was in the military. I tutor grades 7 through 12 and some college.
I am a very flexible and adaptive tutor. I like to adjust my explanations and examples to meet the needs of my students. I want to build a good student-teacher relationship to make it easier for students to communicate their needs. I believe praise and celebration are important to building confidence, and my goal is to help students learn how to tackle challenging problems with excitement, not fear!
I was tutoring an adult in a week-long math class while I was in the military. The class was designed to go from math basics (grade 2-4 content) up to logarithms, which is late high school content, in one week. This adult hadn't been in a math class for over a decade, and she was very nervous about the class because she 'was never good at math' as she told me. I taught the class, but I would work with her individually to explain concepts that she didn't remember or never properly learned. She felt safe enough with me to tell me what her weak areas were, so we could work on them. By the end of the class, she passed the final exam with a 91%, and I was so proud of her!
I play a lot of video games. I play on PC, Switch, and PS5. I like roguelite, casual simulation, and resource management-type games! I also love to make art, traditionally and digitally, and I am always watching at least 2-3 of the currently airing anime on Crunchyroll. I keep up with the MCU and new Star Wars content. I'm currently watching season 2 of DHMIS and I am SLOWLY working through all of Viziepop's works on YouTube. I'm a huge nerd, and I'm proud of it!
