I recently graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science. My passion lies in education; I have been a test prep tutor for 7+ years, specializing in the SAT and ACT. My students have seen their scores increase significantly through my test prep curriculum, which relies on regular practice tests, focused lessons that target specific areas for improvement, and adapting to the student's needs, whatever they may be.
My tutoring philosophy relies on a growth mindset. One of the greatest challenges for many students is a fear of making mistakes. But this fear of failure holds us back — it prevents us from trying if we're at all unsure. I encourage a growth mindset with my students, one that embraces mistakes as part of the learning process. No one can learn without messing up, because mistakes are what we learn the most from. That is why I encourage progress, not perfection. I am a prompt and reliable communicator and am more than happy to collaborate with students and parents to tailor our sessions to meet your needs.
One of my most challenging but most fulfilling tutoring experiences was with an SAT student who struggled with the math section. He was afraid of admitting what he didn't know, but as we built trust, he finally revealed how math had always felt like an impossible subject for him. We spent weeks reviewing basic number theory and foundational math concepts until he was ready to return to more advanced SAT math. After months of tutoring, he not only excelled in his SAT, but he also raised his grades in school, earning an A in math for the first time in his life. I was so fortunate to be able to help him realize he wasn't "bad at math" - he'd just never had the right instruction.
I love gardening and houseplants - I have an indoor jungle with 30+ plants. I also spend my time doing puzzles, crocheting, and watching reality TV (my guilty pleasure).
