I am a professional tutor with over a decade of tutoring experience, a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College, and a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego. I have helped hundreds of students reach their goal scores on the SAT/ACT by forming genuine connections with my students and adapting my approach to each student’s specific needs.
My tutoring style is rooted in empathy, humor, and flexibility. I focus on improvement in a non-judgmental, enjoyable way that earns my students’ trust and gets them to fully buy-in to the test prep process. My tutoring program is what each student needs it to be, whether that be a rigidly structured overview of all topics, focused on simple improvements on the margins, or anywhere in-between. All of my test prep work focuses on growth, practice tests, and regular review.
My empathetic approach, flexibility, and commitment to my students allowed me to help a junior who was exceedingly anxious about taking the SAT around other students. After we’d met for a few weeks, I individually proctored a practice exam for her over Zoom, mimicking as much as possible the real-life test conditions (Saturday morning, following the exact timing guidelines, etc). For her next few practice tests, we repeated this process at a public library. She became more comfortable testing in public and eventually improved on all sections of the SAT, reaching her goal score of 1450. More so, as her parents would later share with me, her self-confidence and comfort “performing” in public spaces improved every aspect of her academic life.
Tutoring is my favorite thing to do! When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy going to concerts and art museums, watching sports, and reading.
