I am a certified teacher with more than 25 years of experience teaching science and mathematics. I have taught college classes, assisted nursing and allied health students, and was a coach for a middle school Science Olympiad program. I have a master's degree in biomedical engineering and I tutor grades 5-College.
I love science and math and share my enthusiasm for these subjects with my students. I try to get to know each one as an individual and present the subject in small segments so the student does not become overwhelmed. I start out very slowly, making sure the student is grasping the material before moving on. I like to begin with a short review of concepts and answer any questions the student may have encountered during the week. I am happy to assist students with homework, thought problems and working with the calculator in math and science courses.
I have many student success stories, but two come especially to mind. One was a student who had her heart set on becoming a nurse, but struggled with the chemistry and math. We worked together during the semester and it was a thrill to see her graduate and walk across the stage. She is now a nurse in a large hospital system. Another is a chemistry and math student, who struggled in high school. She was concerned about her grades for her college applications. We worked together during the semester and she ended the last grading period with an A!
For fun, I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, walking my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and especially bird watching and reading with my Kindle. I also have adopted two rescue dogs and helped with fostering and rescuing Cavaliers and helping place them in forever homes. I help with the city food bank and homeless shelter, loading cars with donated food and items during the pandemic.
