I am extremely passionate about helping students find the best way to break down a complex problem into smaller solvable pieces. This is something I have been doing for the past 10 years when I design satellites and sounding rockets. I have had much success with inspiring students of all ages to pursue their dreams and to discover why math and science can indeed make their dreams come true.
I have tutored all levels of math with a focus on higher level math in universities. I am experience with the following math: elementary school, pre-algebra, algebra I, geometery, algebra II, trigonometer, precalculus, calculus I - III, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, differential equations, statistics, and discrete mathematics. In addition I have tutored students in all AP Physics, College level physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Materials Engineering, Astronomy, and Earth Sciences.
I have worked with students in high school all through university levels.
As a tutor, I have had the pleasure to teach many students. Their knowledge levels have ranged from very experienced confident college level students. I have significant experience with teaching foreign students online.
My best success story comes from a student who speaks primarily Mandarin. This student was struggling in a robotics course that was pretty advanced. They were adamant that they only wanted a Mandarin speaking tutor. On the platform I was working with, I was one of the very few experts in robotics and the advisors suggested that he give me a try. The student took a trial course with me not expecting to get much out of it.
After he had a lesson with me, he was blown away by the lesson. During the lesson I was patient with the student and spoke clearly so that he could fully understand the material. I checked in with him to ensure that he understood everything I said in english. The student greatly appreciated how he was able to connect with me. I was also able to give great examples to him and really find what he was struggling with. Despite the initial hesitation, he booked 40 classes with me.
With this student, I saw a lot of struggles in the programming section of the course. Thus, I designed a course to work with him on his C++ programming. By teaching programming skills and gaining confidence through piece by piece instruction, I was able to teach the student how to program. With my guidance, he went from a student who was not confident in robotics to one who was able to pass it and impress his classmates with his robot. The student liked me so much that he booked me for over a year to help with multiple engineering courses and felt really confident that I was preparing him for his career.
