I am a certified math teacher with more than a decade of experience in classroom teaching, spanning middle school, high school, and college-level classes. I have taught and tutored in person and virtually. Over my 10+ years of experience, I have worked with students with ADHD, reading and math deficiencies, dyslexia, dyscalculia, organizational deficiencies, and Autism. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics Education and also have a master's degree in Human Resources Management.
When working with anybody, I first like to learn about them, such as their hobbies, interests, career intent, learning styles, and personality. I let students ask me questions as well so they can learn about me. I feel very passionate about mathematics, but I know many students have difficulty with it. So, I think of the best way I can to connect the material to the student, based on what I learned about them. I try basic strategies to help students and ask for feedback to understand what fits them the most. To ensure students are succeeding, I use formative assessments and adjust my lesson either during the tutoring session and/or to prepare for the upcoming session.
My tutoring story begins with a student I taught as a sophomore in high school. She was reluctant to participate in class, but I knew she had potential. After days and weeks of not giving up on her, she finally realized she could be successful in math. Later, in her college years, I tutored her for her math class virtually. She had to take a break due to family issues, but she came back and is getting ready to graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice.
I am a nerd; it's a requirement to teach math, so I like watching documentaries, superhero movies, Pokemon Go, etc. Also, I like to hang out with friends, travel, go to the beach, and visit museums.
