About Me

I'm a bilingual educator fluent in English and Spanish. I earned my degree from Michigan State University with a BA in Spanish and a minor in Anthropology. I graduated with honors and received an award for Outstanding Student in Spanish. Additionally, I hold a CELTA certificate from Cambridge University to teach ESL. I have lived and worked abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, Ecuador, for more than 8 years. I have over 7 years of international experience teaching ESL in Ecuador and 4 years of experience teaching Spanish and ESL remotely. My previous work experiences, whether online, in a classroom, or a business setting, demonstrate my ability to adapt and adjust. I am skilled at working with diverse groups of people and am empathetic to language learners and their needs. I am capable of teaching students of varying ages, nationalities, and language proficiency levels.

Tutoring Style

My teaching approach focuses on student-centered and interactive learning. My students are expected to actively participate in lessons. I maintain a good rapport with my students and provide positive feedback, even when they make mistakes, to foster a suitable learning environment. I implement scaffolding techniques in lessons to help students stay motivated during challenging tasks by simplifying them and making them more manageable and achievable. I integrate other teaching techniques, such as instructional gestures, Total Physical Response (TPR), proper modeling, and graded language, to accommodate students at different proficiency levels. Additionally, I incorporate real-life objects (realia), authentic materials, fun games, and real-life conversations to make learning more engaging for the students.

Success Story

I was able to help a prior student tackle his high school Spanish coursework after having been sick with Lyme disease and having lots of makeup work to do. It was rewarding to be able to help him catch up on what he had missed and pass his Spanish class in order to graduate on time.

Hobbies & Interests

I love spending time outdoors, going to the beach, hiking, gardening, and doing yoga. I also like reading, watching movies, and dancing. I enjoy learning about new cultures and languages, meeting people from all over the world, and sharing a nice meal with someone.
