I have been tutoring since 2014 when I began at the peer tutoring center on campus. I have been formally trained and have worked with students of all abilities. I love helping others discover their confidence in math.
I have tutored high school and college students.
I believe tutoring is unique to every student. I am very flexible in my explanation of concepts and believe in a student led approach. It is important to build up self efficacy within the student and provide opportunities for the student to grow. Math is a subject that builds upon previous concepts and it is important to meet a student where they are and build up their confidence in the subject itself!
One of my favorite success stories is from a student that I was tutoring that was in their final math class of their degree. They felt really uncomfortable with math and lacked a lot of confidence. They were also taking a 7 week version of the calculus 1 which is already challenging with the small time frame. They came to me with the hopes of passing the class. They were struggling significantly and had only 2 week left in the class and had failed two exams. We worked diligently for those two weeks meeting regularly and worked on learning the previous concepts and recent material concurrently. Each session the concepts made more and more sense and ultimately the student was gaining confidence. Their grades on assignments increased and with a lot of time and hard work put in by the student they went into the final confident that they could pass the class - and they did!
I enjoy running, biking, swimming, hiking, and camping! I have two cats and a dog. My dog, Forrest, loves to go on runs with me.
