I'm a recent college graduate with three years of tutoring experience. I received my bachelor's degree from Ithaca College, where I studied writing and mathematics. I tutor high school and undergraduate students in both mathematics and English.
My primary goal in sessions is to boost student confidence. This, to me, is the key to student success and well-being. I cheerlead while encouraging independence, collaborating with students in learning what style of learning and studying works best for them.
A few years ago, I tutored an undergraduate student in a college writing class. This student had learning disabilities, including dyslexia, that he wasn't receiving accommodations for, and by the time we started working together, he had already decided to transfer schools. We met weekly for the rest of the semester, and by the end of the semester, he went from feeling like he couldn't write at all to being able to recognize the strengths in his paper. His confidence in expressing himself grew vastly, and soon he was able to identify everything from structural issues to grammar slips independently.
When I'm not tutoring, I love arts and crafts! I volunteer for a literary magazine, and I've also recently gotten into embroidery. I also enjoy hiking, yoga, and spending time with dogs and cats.
