I’ve been tutoring accounting and math professionally for years. I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Northern Michigan University and I tutor grades 11-College.
My goal with every student is to build mutual trust and create a light, warm atmosphere where students feel encouraged, unjudged, and free to make the mistakes that are necessary for learning, without being made to feel bad for doing so. I combine this with a deep knowledge of the material and exceptional communication to form an environment well-suited for learning, even with subjects the student finds very challenging or frustrating. Because every student is different, I am flexible in my approach and adapt my style and teaching to what suits the particular student best.
A recent success story involved an Accounting 2 college student. When he signed up with me, he admitted he was putting 20-30 hours per week into studying and had only a D to show for his effort. Worse, his professor had all but abandoned him, telling him he wasn’t trying hard enough when the student asked for help. Through our tutoring sessions, we rebuilt his confidence, created more efficient study habits, and I taught him the course material. He ended the semester with a B+ in the course.
My hobbies include drawing, reading, writing, building model kits and LEGO, and difficult video games.
