I am a certified teacher with 5 years experience in the classroom. I taught a variety of classes covering English 1 and 2 on-level and English 1 and 2 Honors. I have a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in Sociology with a double minor in Psychology and English and I tutor grades 7-College.
I am an enthusiastic and high-energy teacher who loves to get to know my student and create a tutoring plan based on their needs. Together, we will identify strengths to celebrate and weaknesses to grow in. I truly believe any student can be successful and we can take the intimidation out of difficult subjects or assignments! As needed, we will review concepts, make connections to the real world to help them stick, and build actionable skills so the student feels confident in the classroom.
One of my students started the year with very little confidence in her writing ability and very high stress levels surrounding any essay assignment. We met regularly to break down the assignment into manageable pieces and take the time to ensure her mastery of the concepts before we put them together for the "whole". By the end of the semester, she began to come to tutoring sessions with a clear idea of what she wanted to write and how she wanted to do it so we focused on editing and revising! She finished with an A in her English 2 Honors class and went on to complete the year with an A overall and a newfound mastery of writing.
I am a big fan of anything and everything that allows me to be active! I travel constantly and love to walk around new places, go for long hikes with my dog, or take in art galleries. I love to write in my spare time and spend time with my roommate (and always, the dog). When I'm not being active or outside, I am probably cooking or taking photos! I love to create in pretty much every area of life, food included.
