I am an experienced Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics with experience in Pre-Algebra up to Calculus and Linear Algebra. I have a bachelor's degree in mathematical sciences and I tutor grades 6-College.
My tutoring style is to try to get students to realize that it's perfectly fine to get a problem wrong, as long as we can figure out what went wrong. I try to give students easier examples of harder problems, and want them to laugh with me once we've realized how while a problem can look complicated and confusing, they're all based on the fundamental, foundational knowledge that we all have. That's the sort of knowledge I try to develop in my students.
I had a student whom I first tutored, then taught at the college I teach at, then tutor again in between semesters. She was an older student coming back after maybe 40/50 years not being in a classroom, and she had quite a hard time grasping some fundamental math concepts. I just worked with her, over and over again, showing her the simple cases and then slowly ramping them into more complicated problems. She still struggled as many older learners do, but there was a point where she would come either to my class or a tutoring session saying "You know, I really like math! I like how it all makes sense", she felt catharsis whenever she was working on a difficult problem that ended up being simpler than she imagined. She has still some difficulties with mathematics, but she is so much better suited to take them on now compared to when I first started tutoring her.
I have been playing music since I was very young, and have played and experimented with things such as classical flamenco guitar, funk electric guitar, 80's style synthesizers and more. I also very much enjoy being the Game Master/Dungeon Master for Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Open Legend, Call of Cthulhu and other table top rpgs.
