I am a licensed high school math teacher with more than 10 years of experience. My main specialty is high school math but I have also tutored Arabic. I have a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign and I tutor grades 6-11.
My foremost goal is to help students actualize their confidence and growth mindsets. I believe those two characteristics can help children thrive as they go into their adulthood and post-secondary ventures. I do this by establishing a relationship of trust with my students, and genuinely being interested in what they feel their strengths and passions are. I take learning at the student's pace, and slowly give the reins over to my students to show them that they can use what we've practiced and learned to solve any problem that comes their way.
I had a student who was feeling completely overwhelmed by his coursework. He loved Math but was "buzzing out" when he would take tests. He was failing Math and desperately wanted to pass. We met up for several hours the week before his final. We were able to review an entire semesters' worth of content and gain confidence in performing these skills solo on a test. This student passed the semester and we were able to work with his family, counselors, and next year Math teacher to create a schedule that was not going to overload him again next semester. We also ensured that his schedule continued to align with his passions and dreams for a career after high school and college.
I love to hike and enjoy the outdoors! I also enjoy cooking and listening to podcasts that teach me new skills, perspectives, and history. My favorite people are my family and I enjoy every second I spend with them.
