I am a working engineer with over 5 years of experience tutoring students in mostly STEM subjects. I have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and am one semester away from completing my master's in engineering.
I am a very structured tutor, focusing on identifying the root problem a student has before teaching. This usually involves quizzing a student on what they know already and making sure they understand the basics first. As a teaching style, I encourage students to think for themselves and will have them attempt problems independently before stepping in to help. Also, after I teach a concept, I usually have the students work on practice problems to ensure they understand.
One of my best success stories is when I helped a student with Autism and ADHD learn Algebra concepts. This student struggled academically, because of their condition, and needed help getting started with homework. I learned how to adjust my teaching approach to help them, and came up with a way to break down a problem into simple steps. This gave the student an easy way to see how to start the problem, and how to track what next step to take. With time, the student was able to solve complex problems on their own, instead of relying on me.
In my free time, I like to hike and play strategy games.
