I am a middle school dropout turned college graduate. I decided I needed to get an education to take care of my kid, so against all odds I ended up graduating with a degree in applied mathematics, though it was pretty difficult. I have tutored or taught math for over 10 years now at various colleges and public schools across central Texas. My primary goal is to help students not fall into the same trap that I did in addition to helping them realize their true potential.
I am an empathetic and understanding tutor. As someone who didn't always "get" math I have a lot of patience, extra explanations, and motivational stories to help students of all skill levels understand the material. I will never make someone feel inadequate for not understanding a topic, and I'll continue helping until the student understands. At the colleges I tutored at, many students would specifically wait for me even if other tutors were available because of my understanding and empathetic style.
My first success story is a student I didn't even remember coming up to me when I was a senior at Texas State University. He asked if I used to tutor at his community college and I confirmed I did. He got excited and told me that I was the only one that was able to make Calculus make sense to him. He credited my tutoring to him getting into Engineering school and succeeding in math. Another story is a student I taught Calculus to in the past couple of years. He got accepted to the University of Texas at Austin for Engineering, and he actually got to travel to Japan to see what their tech companies were working on, including Nintendo, one of my favorites.
My main interests are video games, computer games, and watching TV (including anime); but I also really enjoy going on road trips, hiking, learning new topics online, and practicing math problems.
