About Me

I am a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized educator with degrees in Education and Curriculum and over 20 plus years in the education field. I previously taught Elementary Education for 18 years in Georgia and am currently an online Math and Reading Tutor. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master of Education with an add-on in Early Childhood Education, and a Specialist’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Tutoring Style

I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves working with students of all ages. I believe there is no better way for a student to succeed than one-on-one teaching/tutoring. The combination of my education, in-person classroom teaching, and online tutoring provides me with a solid base to nurture the academic growth of learning with the student. Additionally, my knowledge of Elementary Curriculum in Math and Language Arts (Vocabulary Development, Spelling, Phonics, and Reading) help guide me in the appropriate direction to steer the student’s learning style as we work together on the path to success. Furthermore, I help the student progress by determining his or her specific needs and designing targeted lessons just for him or her.

Success Story

A fourth-grade student came from an underperforming school district and struggled with equivalent fractions. His minority status in a predominately white school coupled with his difficulties in maintaining attention made academic success challenging. After spending some time getting to know him and teasing out the details of his areas of need, I utilized varied interactive digital manipulatives (fraction circles & strips, number lines, etc) to create equivalent fractions while maintaining his engagement. Over the school year, the combination of rapport and creative, personalized lessons that I wove together, provided the scaffolding required for him to be successful.
