I have eight years of tutoring experience in math, science, economics, and Spanish to students in middle school, high school, and college. I have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida and am starting my PhD in electrical engineering from Duke University. I tutor grades 6-college.
I am very passionate about the topics I teach and definitely consider myself an enthusiastic educator. I use a gradual release method to teach topics where I first go through a problem step-by-step, then I let the student instruct me on certain steps, then I let them try by themselves. This allows the student to build confidence before trying by themselves and allows me to see where they are getting stuck. My biggest goal to help students feel confident in themselves and their abilities.
My best success story was with a student in college algebra who came to me early on in the semester. After she failed the first exam and had a D in the course, she was seeking help. We met 2-3 times a week and started with reinforcing foundational algebra skills to work on mathematical thinking. By the end of the semester, she passed the class with a B+ and felt way more confident in her algebra skills. She is now pursuing a graduate degree in speech language pathology.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy CrossFit, hiking, walking my dogs, and reading.
