I am a professional student with a hunger for knowledge and a passion for helping others achieve their academic goals. I have a bachelor's degree from CUNY Medgar Evers College and I tutor grades 1-8.
I am a motivated tutor that is excited about the subjects I instruct. I modify my teaching methods based on the needs of my students, moving at their pace, repeating myself when necessary, or starting at a higher level. To make learning enjoyable, I try to incorporate comparable real-world scenarios whenever I can. I like getting students involved in class by questioning them about their methods and mental processes. I reinforce the subjects we cover together by going over them again until the student feels confident enough to handle them independently.
During my an undergrad semester my Calculus professor approached my about tutoring other adult students in the learning center. I was charged with an individual who was struggling from the beginning of the semester, as he did not have a solid foundation in mathematics making it difficult to grasp the concepts. I was able to work with him on foundational concepts and add in current in class topics. I am happy to say that i was able to to boost his confidence in his work, which was evident in his quiz and midterm grades. I worked with him for the rest of the semester ultimately taking him from a 57 average to a 86 in a class he was repeating for the second time.
In my free time I enjoy the outdoors and the many offerings of nature in the form of biking/ walking trails during the summer and fall months. During the winter i ski and board at every available opportunity, it's an exhilarating sport that I picked up 5 years ago. If I'm not doing any of the before mentioned I am more than likely trying out different cultural foods.
