I am a retired NC middle/high school math and ELA classroom teacher, with over 15 years experience in the classroom. I primarily taught grades 5th-9th, but also taught grades 2nd-12th. I have tutored my entire career, but have also been tutoring online for the last five/six years subjects and test preps including: math, ELA, study skills, inclusion classes (IEP's), and test preps (SAT, GED, PSAT, ACT, ASVAB, and others). I have a BS from East Carolina University.
My sessions are fun, engaging, energetic, and interactive. I believe in positive behavior incentive (PBIS) and immediate feedback. Both of these help build and maintain a student's self-esteem and keeps them motivated. I am data driven and share my data with my students. This keeps their self-esteem and motivation high, as well. I have the experience, skills, and resources to make sure my students succeed. Respect is another important factor. A tutor must give respect to get respect. I make it a point to get to know my students and their learning styles, so they will excel in whatever subject/topic we are working on.
My favorite success story is about an entire class I was tutoring in preparation for their End of Grade Math 1 exam. Each student was a repeater, meaning they had already taken the exam once if not twice or three times. I promised if they all passed I would shave my head. The likely hood they would all pass was little to none. Needless to say, I was shaving my head the beginning of June. It was well worth it. I had students and parents contact me with the utmost praise. I replied, "it wasn't me, they did all the work." I can't tell you how proud I was of them and how proud I was to sport my new haircut!
When I am not tutoring, I love playing with my puppy I got for Christmas. His name is Elroy, and he is a bully puppy. He is so handsome and spoiled rotten. He is black and white. It looks like he has on a tuxedo. I also enjoy watching TV: The Vikings and GOT.
