I am a certified teacher with more than 20 years of experience in the classroom. I have taught a variety of classes including Biology, Biology 2, AP Biology, Chemistry, Chemistry 2, Environmental Science, Astronomy, Human Anatomy, Physical Science, and Physics. I have a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and I tutor grades 9 - College.

My Tutoring Style:

Even after twenty-plus years in the classroom, I still love teaching science. My biggest strength is my ability to explain difficult or abstract concepts in a way that teenagers can understand. I like to use visuals to enhance my explanations and I have two decades worth of materials that I have written for the classroom I can use during my tutoring sessions. I like to get to know the students both academically and personally because I want them to feel comfortable and not afraid to ask questions.

Success Story:

One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a biology student that had just moved to the US from China. When we started, the language was an issue because there is so much vocabulary in science. This boy was incredibly persistent, though, and he spent the time needed to understand the science words. During every session, he insisted on reading the passages or instructions and there was obvious improvement as we continued to work together. His last unit in the class was on Mendelian genetics and heredity which can be confusing for students with no language issues. He did so well! Not only did he understand the vocabulary but he could also solve the genetics problems with no issues. He ended up getting an A on the test!

Hobbies & Interests:

In my down time, I love to read and crochet. I also like to spend time in the kitchen either cooking or baking (baking is my favorite). I have two teenage sons that are active in sports and I love to go to their games and watch them play. I also like to take walks or jog to help stay relaxed and focused.
