I'm Sukwon, and I've been working as a professional tutor for over four years at top test prep academies in the United States and South Korea. I have extensive experience teaching both sections of the Digital SAT (and the Paper SAT before that), and I know all the tips, tricks, and strategies to help you achieve your goal score. I have a BA in Economics and History from Vanderbilt University, and also tutor AP Micro/Macroeconomics and AP US/European/World History.
I treat students as human beings first - that means getting to know my students as people and being understanding of differences in learning style, skill level, and background. Preparing for standardized tests like the SAT and applying for college can be a stressful process, so I put a lot of value in being empathetic and setting manageable, achievable goals. During my lessons, you'll establish (or verify) your content knowledge, making sure you know the fundamental content behind the test, learn how to read questions and grasp the tricks behind solving questions as efficiently as possible.
My most interesting success story was when I was introduced to a student who had recently immigrated to the US, and was struggling in the R/W section of the test. He was really demotivated due to the perceived language barrier, feeling that English being his second language was an insurmountable obstacle. I encouraged him to focus his mindset on his strengths, as I saw that he was significantly better at math. Over the summer, we met weekly to practice the R/W section, and he was able to learn how to recognize and approach specific question archetypes. By approaching the test in a structured way and seeing how to identify what the test was really asking, he was able to get an overall score increase of 310 points.
I love to travel - the top three countries I've visited are Vietnam, Ukraine, and Taiwan. I also love to cook and bake, and I'm also an avid reader - I really enjoy 19th-century fiction, particularly Mark Twain and Alexander Dumas.
