About Me

I am a certified teacher who has been teaching since 2020. I teach 7th and 8th grade math and have taught a lot of classes for students who are new to the country and just learning English for the first time. I have a Master’s degree from Western Governors University and mostly tutor Elementary and Middle School grade levels.

Tutoring Style

I love to structure my tutoring sessions by showing a student how to do a problem, trying a few together, and then having them do some on their own to ensure they feel confident and are getting it. I feel like math is hard for a lot of students to understand unless they can make connections to things they already are familiar with or like. I love when we go through problems and the student has worked hard to try and understand things and they get their “lightbulb moment” where things just click and they see things in a way they couldn’t before. Learning math is about practice and working hard, not about how smart or not smart you think you are.

Success Story

A success story in my teaching was when I had a student who was in a rehabilitation center and trying to get caught up in a lot of classes. He was almost 2 years behind in school because of some hard life problems and poor decisions. We got him caught up and worked hard and he graduated the summer after he would normally have graduated, so 2 months later instead of 2+ years later.

Hobbies & Interests

I love to paint and do crafts. I like playing Animal Crossing on my Switch and hanging out with my puppy who is a Daschund.
