In middle school, the absurdity of the story of Gregor Mendel, the monk who fathered genetics, ignited my passion for science. I am a passionate chemistry tutor with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana. I tutor grades 6-College.

My tutoring style:

My enjoyment of chemistry allows me to interject humor and useful metaphors throughout the session. I guide the student through the problem-solving process by establishing the steps they already recognize must be taken and bridging their understanding to the solution with probing questions. At the end of the session, I help the student construct a review of what we learned in their own words. Throughout the session, I praise students for their efforts.

Success story:

A student in my afterschool group had a particularly hard time focusing on problems he found frustrating, such as balancing more frustrating combustion reactions. However, we both connected over our enjoyment of the Five Nights at Freddy's video game. We worked through a few problems together. Then, I rewarded him with brief periods of game conversation whenever he put in time to try different strategies to balance the reactions. Eventually, the task became procedural to him, and he aced his quiz on the subject.

Hobbies and interests:

I enjoy walking along riverside trails and exploring the mountains. I spend much of my free time figuring out my next crochet project or diving into the lore surrounding a popular movie or video game. I listen to podcasts about comedy and little-known history throughout the day, and often end my day watching YouTube horror shorts.
