About Me

I am a certified math teacher with a Bachelors in Math and a Masters in Physics with 14 years experience teaching high school math. I have led the math club as well as tutored students during lunch and after school. Most students tell me I am good at helping them understand the concepts by relating them to things they know.

Tutoring Style

I am adept at explaining concepts in a way students understand. I love breaking down concepts into bite-size chunks to make them easier for students to handle. I also like to relate math topics to ideas students already understand like sports or money. I will try to always draw pictures to show how things work.

Success Story

My favorite success story is when I helped a Pre-Algebra student gain confidence in her skills. When I first started working with my student, she was at the end of the year in Pre-Algebra and she was lacking basic skills like multiplication. For the first few weeks, we spent half of our time playing multiplication games online. I gave her links so she could practice on her phone as well. Now that she is in Algebra 1 she rarely has to grab her calculator for basic multiplication and can focus on the concepts she is learning. Her confidence has improved drastically.

Hobbies & Interests

I love to read. If I am not working, I am lounging on my couch, iPad in hand reading on my Kindle app. I also like to fix things. I enjoy figuring out how things work and making them work again by watching do-it-yourself videos and figuring it out. I have fixed everything from lawnmowers to brakes on my car and my printer when they broke.
