In addition to teaching science in the classroom, I have also tutored math, science, and test prep for K-12 as well as college. I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry.
I love the topics I teach, and I am a strong believer in looking for the root issue behind a student's difficulty. (Sometimes we need a better explanation, and sometimes we just need a snack.) I also try to prioritize student involvement and critical thinking -- the goal of education isn't just to remember a few facts and equations, but to develop a more effective and capable mind.
I once had a student who wanted to take AP Chemistry for the upcoming school year, but who hadn't taken on-level chemistry yet. So we had the summer to cover the whole of the course and prepare her to test for the AP course. We met multiple times a week, with me providing lectures, practice material, and even the occasional chemical demonstration. It was a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time, but she successfully tested it at the end of the summer!
I spend a good amount of time with a book or a pen in my hand, with my favorite subjects being theology, philosophy, and poetry. I enjoy finding and learning new musical instruments, and I also enjoy the occasional fishing trip when the weather is fair.
