About Me

I am a PhD student and graduate teaching assistant with nearly 5 years of experience teaching composition and literature. I have a bachelor's degree from Birmingham-Southern College and a master's degree from the University of Alabama, and I tutor both high school and college students.

Tutoring Style

I am a personable teacher who likes to build rapport with students and meet them where they are. I have a knack for breaking down and simplifying information so it can be easily understood by just about anyone. I pay attention to students' interests and learning styles, and I do my best to fine-tailor my tutoring sessions to each student. When I can, I try to incorporate pop culture references into lessons to help keep students engaged.

Success Story

I once had a student who struggled with staying on topic when writing essays. We spent multiple sessions working on ways to streamline his essays so that all of his paragraphs pointed back to the thesis statement and did not juggle too many random ideas or topics. Before we solidified his organizational skills, he thought writing was difficult and felt anxious whenever he had to do it. After he learned how to connect the dots back to the thesis statement, he wasn't nervous about writing anymore and began to write witty, well-written papers about subjects that mattered to him.

Hobbies & Interests

In my free time, I like reading, drawing, video gaming, going on walks with my Australian Shepherd (Gatsby), and listening to music. I am a multi-instrumentalist who can play guitar, bass, and drums. Additionally, I like to watch college and professional football (Roll Tide and Go Bills!).
