I am a certified elementary education teacher with more than 7 years of combined experience in a traditional classroom, one-on-one tutoring/teaching, small group teaching, and virtual learning. I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and I tutor grades K-6.
I am a passionate teacher who believes that the education of my students begins with building a relationship with them and getting to know them on a personal level. I like to get to know things that interest them, things they enjoy doing, games they like to play, etc. My passion then goes into what I teach each of my students and I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of my students. I reinforce the topics we learn together by reviewing them in a variety of ways until the student shows proficiency with the topic!
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a struggling third grade math student not only pass but do exceedingly well on her end-of-grade MAP testing in math, which was a subject she had struggled with all year! She came to me with about 3-4 weeks left in the school year, her end-of-grade testing just 2 weeks away, and she was struggling severely in math. We met twice a week for an hour each day focusing solely on math MAP testing questions and she went on to pass her exam with flying colors!
When I am not tutoring, I am spending time with my family and friends, hanging out with my 12-year-old daughter, or playing with my cat, Ziggy.
