I am a certified teacher with 5 years of experience in the classroom teaching high school math. I graduated from Virginia Tech with my B.S. in Math and a minor in Leadership and then later with my M.A. in Education, Curriculum, & Instruction.
I bring enthusiasm for both math and learning! My teaching style is centered around fostering a deep understanding of math concepts rather than just focusing on procedures. I emphasize mastery through a growth mindset, encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. By exploring different approaches to problem-solving, I help students build confidence and adaptability in their mathematical thinking.
One of my tutoring success stories involves a student struggling in her Math Analysis/Pre-Calculus class. She kept hitting a wall on certain problems, getting stuck and frustrated. Recognizing this, we took a few steps back to revisit the foundational concepts of trigonometric functions. Through regular sessions, she began deepening her understanding of these basics and started to see the problems in a new light. This shift in perspective allowed her to approach the problems with greater confidence, leading to significant improvement and success in her class.
I love staying active in my free time whether that's working out at the gym, taking my German Shepherd on long walks, or snowboarding - any time outside is well spent! To balance that, I also enjoy reading and watching Netflix.
