I am an educator with over a decade of experience teaching mathematics including Algebra II, Calculus, and Statistics across both the secondary and college levels. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from The University of North Texas, a Master's of Arts in Mathematics Education from The University of Texas at Dallas, and a research publication in the International Journal of Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences. I enjoy tutoring/teaching students in all fields of secondary mathematics.
I am a passionate and nurturing educator; I focus on understanding my student's needs not only from a content standpoint but from a social-emotional level. I like to establish a mutual understanding of who my student and I are outside of the content we are trying to learn and use my student's interests and experiences to develop a better understanding of the content.
My favorite success story involves a young lady whose family I am still in contact with over 5 years after working together. She struggled most with her self-confidence after it was shaken when entering her sophomore year Honor's Geometry course. I took my time to understand her concerns and focused on helping her feel confident in her ability - she always felt doubtful when attempting new problems by herself. She was shy and uncertain whenever answering a question and would always ask me for confirmation on every single question she completed. Over time, this habit slowly diminished until she would only seek guidance instead of step-by-step explanations when we worked together. I enjoyed working with her for that year and her family was very warm and welcoming; I still keep in contact with her mother and the student is now in her 3rd year of university, excelling at her courses.
When I am not tutoring/teaching, I like to continue to stimulate my mind with board games, strategy video games, and tabletop role-playing games. I also enjoy Asian media, including Anime, Manga, and K-dramas.
