I wasn't always enthusiastic about Math because it used to be so intimidating; then I had an experience that shifted my view of Math forever. I discovered it was a language, and everything began to make sense. I always enjoyed sharing the joy of this language with others, and began tutoring in 2013. What started out as a hobby became a mission to reimagine Math in the mind of learners that experienced challenges that I had. It led me down the more non-traditional teaching paths, and I have enjoyed the journey ever since.
A don't have a one-size fits all teaching style, but rather my biggest goal is to partner with my students and their parents in their journey towards Math success. I create an environment where my learner is assured that they have my support, but I will challenge them through this process. I know that Math is not a fan favorite, and I hope that my learner walks a way with a positive attitude toward Math. I also want to connect the dots between Math, and other important life skills such as problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking.
I instructed a Developmental Math course for College Freshmen during my graduate studies, and I encountered a student that had great difficulty with Math. Additionally, he loathed Math, but expressed a desire to complete the class. I asked him to partner with me, and make a commitment to do the homework, receive one-on-one help from me, and attend tutoring; he agreed. I worked along with him, and kept him accountable. We worked on areas of deficiencies, and he practiced a lot even when he did not want to. Eventually, at the end of the semester he completed the course successfully with a 'B' grade, and he was elated. It was all because he made a commitment to do it, and he was persistent and determined even when he didn't feel like it.
I love water activities- swimming, snorkeling, boating, and fishing. I also love puzzles, sudoku, word searches, board and trivia games. I am a major foodie, and love to travel with Australia being my most desirable travel destination.
