I graduated from NYU Tandon with a civil engineering degree and after working in the field for two years I made the decision to switch to teaching. I worked as a maternity leave substitute teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry to 8th graders. I then started working as a private tutor full time and it is the most fulfilling job I can imagine. I tutor grades 7-College.
I am a tutor who loves every second of teaching and connecting with my students. I feel privileged to get to know each student and how they communicate about math, to meet them where they are and discuss their unique and often brilliant questions about the material. I aim to give my students a sense of autonomy in the exploration of mathematics, and confidence in their ability to problem-solve both in math and in life.
One of my greatest success stories was a wonderful 9th grader. She had already been struggling in Algebra I when all of a sudden classes went virtual and she felt completely lost. She was overwhelmed and had a lot of feelings about math and about school that were making her feel trapped. Little by little, we explored her math skills and where the barriers were that were keeping her from making progress. She worked incredibly hard and we met often at first, but over time her math skills increased and her confidence grew! Every year she became more independent and capable. She is now a sophomore in college, on her way to becoming a nurse, and I could not be prouder.
I love to read (mostly fiction), hang out with my adorable pet cat, spend time with friends and family, and go for walks.
