I have a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and am currently pursuing my master's degree. I tutor grades 6-College. I enjoy teaching and helping students and my peers succeed.
I like easing tension in the room with jokes. It’s easier for the student to learn if they are approaching the tutoring session with a sense of ease rather than tension. Just remember, there are no dumb questions - tutoring is the best time to learn and practice. I like creating problems for students to solve that are similar to what they will normally encounter. Working through them with the student and slowly explaining concepts is my favorite way to tutor.
I had a student once who had zero background in math. He had an understanding of the basics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, but apart from that he wasn’t very comfortable with math. I helped him through his first couple of college semesters from the most basic concepts to advanced concepts that the classes were going over. We were able to bring his grade up from a D/F to a B, and he is continuing to succeed in his math classes to this day, earning As regularly.
