I love coming up with creative ways to help students learn and enjoy watching them grasp the material. I have a master's degree from the University of South Florida (where I'm currently pursuing my doctorate in medical engineering) and I tutor grades 7-College.
When it comes to any math subject, I believe it is very important to understand the concepts. Whenever I am tutoring, I make sure my students know the reason behind their calculations. Math subjects build upon one another and it's imperative to start with a good foundation.
Before diving into the math I want to get to know who I’m working with and give them a chance to get know me as well. Learning my students allows me to personalize lessons to make the most of each session. My goal is to create a comfortable environment that enables students to work hard and encourages them to be confident in their capabilities.
One of my favorite success stories is that of a senior high school student that was held back from graduating because she was not able to pass math. She did not like math in any way and it showed in her work. She already counted herself out when it came to math because she felt like it was something she would never be good at. She wasn’t taking good notes in class and wouldn’t give homework assignments the time of day. We worked together for a year and over time came up with a system that helped her be more proactive/organized in class and intentional with learning. I learned that her goal was to become a chef and I incorporated that interest into solving math problems. Within a year this student was able to successfully pass the math class she needed to graduate. We built such a great relationship working together that I attended her graduation!
I’ve been a dancer for 20 years. I love taking dance class, choreographing, and making concept videos. I also enjoy traveling and baking.
