About Me

I have taught and tutored mathematics for 20 years at the college and high school levels. I have a PhD in Mathematics Education, which means I studied how to do math as well as how students learn math. I tutor high school and college students.

Tutoring Style

I am passionate about helping students overcome their fear and anxiety about math. Math can be a difficult subject, but I enjoy helping students understand both the how and why of mathematics through making connections and practice. I help my students gain confidence in their abilities to problem solve.

Success Story

One of my favorite success stories is about a college student who wanted to become an elementary teacher, but she was so terrified of math, that she considered changing her major. I worked with her weekly on the math concepts she struggled with, and soon she was not only confident in her ability to do math, she wanted to work with elementary students who struggle with math. She knew her own struggles with math would help her become a patient and empathetic teacher. She soon graduated and is currently working as an elementary teacher who works with a math program that specializes in helping struggling elementary students.

Hobbies & Interests

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my 3 dogs and reading historical fiction. I also enjoy learning about technology and building/programming Arduino projects.
