I have my doctorate in English and have been teaching and tutoring for 13 years. I have taught every variety of writing/composition and many courses in American literature and history. I tutor high school and college students.
I am an enthusiastic educator and believe that students thrive when we meet them at their level. I am adept at trying new techniques and ideas to get through to students. I love experiencing the "lightbulb moment" when students make connections.
I worked with a college student who did not do well in high school, both academically and behaviorally. After a few years in the military, he returned to community college to try again and was very anxious about being back in the classroom. I had regular sessions with him to help him feel "caught up" to the college level. He not only earned an A in the class and grew as a writer by leaps and bounds, I wrote him a letter of recommendation for an internship with the United Nations. He is now currently applying for law school.
As you might imagine, I am a big reader! I enjoy theater and music, and have restarted my childhood hobbies of piano and dance.
