I've been teaching mathematics, physics, and computer science to children and adults for almost two decades. I have bachelor's degrees in mathematics and physics from Miami University, a master's in mathematics from Indiana University, and a master's in education from Marian University. I taught high school math and science in Indianapolis and spent the last decade in Madison, Wisconsin teaching adults how to analyze healthcare data.
I love helping people learn, especially in subjects that have a reputation for being intimidating, like math. I truly believe that everyone has the capacity to not only excel in those subjects, but also to enjoy them! I have the patience to identify the "tough parts" and break them down into simple, manageable pieces. I'm grateful to have a passion for math and science and I absolutely love sharing that with learners!
During my first year teaching high school, a parent of one of the students in my pre-calculus class contacted me about her son. She told me he had struggled with math his whole life and had recently been diagnosed with narcolepsy. I started meeting with him after school and came to realize he actually loved math, but felt like his teachers never gave him the support to truly learn it. By the end of the first semester, not only was he excelling in my class, but he also joined the school's robotics club and wrote code that helped the team get first place at the Indianapolis Robotics competition!
I love astronomy and have a Celestron 8-inch telescope that I regularly take out to stargaze. I have a chihuahua that my wife and I bring with us pretty much everywhere we can (she loves to hike in the woods)!
