I am a flexible and organized educational professional with more than 10-years of providing individualized and extracurricular support for students that are struggling with learning concepts and mathematical topics. I have a master’s degree in mathematics from Emporia University of Kansas and I tutor grades 6-College.
I would describe my tutoring style as coaching. Instead of offering answers to my students, I try to ask the right questions, and with the help of demonstration and group activities they should find the answers. I find that taking a coaching role instead of a lecturing role does a better job of helping students develop critical thinking skills and self-confidence.
I began tutoring Issa in July 2017. She was a sweet student who initially struggled with math. I started by going back to basics to provide strategies and direction to build her passion for learning. I knew that Issa was capable of growing her math skills if she put her best foot forward, and that's exactly what she did. Two years later, Issa loved to do math problems and could not get her nose out of her math practice book! Not only this, but every session included math questions to keep her on track. Additionally, her school administered testing, and Issa scored two positions above her standard math grade! It was amazing to see her grow up with determination and how she always motivated herself to do her best!
