I am a professional tutor with over a decade of tutoring experience, a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College, and a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego. I have helped hundreds of students improve their grades and score highly on AP/IB exams by forming genuine connections with my students and adapting my approach to each student’s specific needs. I tutor students in science, math, social sciences, and English from grades 3-college.
My tutoring style is rooted in empathy, humor, and flexibility. I focus on improvement in a non-judgmental, enjoyable way that earns my students’ trust and gets them to fully buy-in to the tutoring process. My tutoring program is what each student needs it to be, whether that involves a deep-dive review of prior topics, looking ahead at future units, or anything in-between. All of my academic-focused work focuses on growth, planning, and regular practice.
I began working with a student after he failed the first exam of the semester in both AP Chemistry and AP Calculus. While he was determined to succeed, his confidence was thoroughly shot. I could tell he was capable but needed to revamp his study habits and approach to the material on a fundamental level. We made these changes and began to build up a series of small victories: understanding individual concepts, answering tough homework problems, passing shorter quizzes. Within a few weeks, he was passing exams. Within six weeks, he was scoring As and Bs, and he eventually scored a 5 on both AP exams.
Tutoring is my favorite thing to do! When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy going to concerts and art museums, watching sports, and reading.
