I have a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in Art, Film, and Visual Studies as well as a language citation in Mandarin Chinese.
I am truly dedicated to making every lesson unique to a student and their needs. I want to help my students unlock their full potential and get to the next stage of their educational journey, and in order to do so I always ensure that I understand exactly what my student wants to get out of our lessons. I end our lessons with a recap of what we have discussed, and provide detailed written and verbal feedback. I am willing to go the extra mile to make my student feel that they are getting the most out of their sessions, and welcome comments from my students and their parents.
In teaching students from Korea, there was often a sense of self-consciousness about accents. I had a young student (3rd grade) who was extremely shy and had a fear of mispronouncing words in English. I was able to turn tricky vocabulary into a game, and by doing so, incentivized my student to say the words that she was afraid of. I also was able to have her open up a bit more so that she could get the most out of our lessons, simply by gamifying the content. My student excelled, not only by being able to say these new words, but also by developing a confidence in herself from our virtual sessions. To me, this is the beauty of remote tutoring!
I write screenplays, articles, and blog posts, as well as direct short films in my spare time. On the weekends, I enjoy watching new movies at my local AMC, reading the corresponding screenplays, and discussing these films with my friends. I also enjoy cooking, and playing with my pet cat, Albert. Lastly, I like to pay forward the education I have been fortunate to receive by assisting high school students with their college admissions essays.
