About Me

I am a certified teacher with more than a decade of experience in the classroom teaching in 1st and 2nd grade. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland and a master's degree from East Carolina University in School Administration.

Tutoring Style

I am a nurturing and passionate teacher who loves to build connections with my students. By understanding each student's individual interests, I am able to structure lessons in a meaningful way to help students connect with the topic, increasing overall engagement and motivation. I am eager to help all students feel confident and successful in their learning journey.

Success Story

One of my favorite tutoring success stories is when I helped a 2nd grader who was struggling in math. He often lacked motivation when it came to math problem-solving and would often give up before even attempting the problem. He made it well-known that he strongly disliked math. When we started working together and I began showing him strategies for solving some tricky problems, while using his favorite hobbies to engage him in the problems, his attitude towards math began to shift and his confidence started to increase. Within a few weeks, he started asking his friends if he could show them his cool strategies and "shortcuts" for solving problems when they were the ones struggling. Becoming a peer mentor to his friends because his math confidence had grown so much was a huge milestone.

Hobbies & Interests

I love spending time with my dog, Maggie, and taking her on walks and to the dog park to play fetch. She's a labrador retriever and loves to run and bring back any ball or toy that I throw! I'm also an avid reader of many genres, but especially mysteries. I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and spending time with my family.
