I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Oregon. I'm an experienced test prep tutor with over four years of experience through AmeriCorps, elite tutoring companies, and the University of Oregon’s student-athlete academic center.
Here are a few of the tenets of my tutoring philosophy: Personal connection: Warm, patient rapport makes learning less intimidating and more engaging. More than memorization: I can help explain why algorithms/formulas work and how they can be used to solve real-world problems. Everyone can learn anything: If a student is confused, it’s my responsibility to explain the concept in a different way until it clicks!
At my previous tutoring company, I worked with a dyslexic student who struggled with standardized testing. Together, we developed strategies to help her work more quickly and accurately. Over the course of a few months, she raised her SAT score from 1000 to 1380!
I enjoy reading (mostly nonfiction, but starting to get into fiction), rock climbing, tennis, hiking, and volunteering at Habitat for Humanity.
