I am a certified teacher with more than 2 decades of experience teaching and tutoring elementary, middle, and high school math and science in the United States, South Africa, and Egypt. I have a bachelor's degree in analytical chemistry from Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa and I tutor grades K-College.
I am an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about STEM. I adapt my teaching style to my student's needs, going slow and repeating myself if needed or moving faster if a student's needs requires that. I enforce the topics we learn together by reviewing them or finding alternative ways of explaining if needed until the student passes with flying colors.
One of my favorite success stories is helping a high school student who struggled to pass chemistry, along with most of his other subjects, and was ready to quit school. I soon realized he had undiagnosed dyslexia. I worked with his family to get him the services necessary and to show him different ways of decoding test problems. Today this student is a pharmacist.
In my free time, I like to use my kitchen as my lab, where I can experiment with different plant-based recipes. I also teach yoga, like to go work in my vegetable garden, hike in the beautiful Catskill mountains with my dogs, and play the piano.
