About Me

Hola! My name is Steven Diaz and I live in Florida. I am a math educator with over 25 years of teaching experience. I have taught and tutored mathematics from 4th grade to college level.

Tutoring Style

I think everyone can learn and do mathematics. This is possible when students and tutees understand the basic idea behind a math topic. For such reason, my teaching and tutoring practices focus on "teaching for understanding." I always strive to explain mathematical ideas in layman's terms (simple words), using visual aids or interactive learning tools, and making connections with real-life situations. I also coach my students to develop a growth mindset, this inner belief that we can do anything with hard work and perseverance. I help them gain awareness that making mistakes is part of the learning process. I emphasize that the focus of learning is to make progress in understanding something that students/tutees did not know or barely knew about it beforehand. I guide my students to focus on how much progress they have made in understanding and applying mathematics. That's the real success! That's how you move forward in gaining confidence in learning and doing mathematics! When students/tutees develop a growth mindset, they are capable of overcoming any challenges in their lives.

I have been blessed with too many success stories, so I will share one internet review from one of my tutees about my tutoring services: "Great math help. I just had a tutoring session with Steven and it was great! He was knowledgeable in all subjects of math. I am going to be taking the general knowledge test soon and that test has mixed math, so it was great to find someone who knew everything. Hobbies & Interests

-Traveling frequently to Puerto Rico, as I have a 2nd home there.
-DIYer: I love to fix or build things at home!
-Attend every Major League Baseball stadium and watch a game. I have attended so far 11 out of 30 ballparks.
