About Me

I am a certified teacher with 13 years of experience teaching grade 1-8 science, grade 1,2,3, and 5 grade math, as well as English and social studies. I taught for six years in Texas and seven years abroad, including countries such as China and Mexico. I love to experience different cultures and languages and to learn about new things.

Tutoring Style

I like to create a fun and welcoming environment when I tutor. I want to understand students' learning styles and help them make connections when learning a concept. I find different ways to understand a math problem, drawing images and using manipulatives if necessary, that way the student can solve the problem with a method that works for them.

Success Story

One example is when I first moved to Mexico and I met a lady who wanted me to tutor her daughter in math. She was at a 9th-grade math level, and felt allergic to the subject. She was very apprehensive about me tutoring her. However, once I made the environment comfortable with card games, and used her scientific knowledge to relate it to math, she became more enthusiastic about learning math. She continued with me for a year and later she felt so comfortable with math. She was excited to tell me about scoring well on the SAT as she prepared for college.

Hobbies & Interests

I love to listen to all types of music, watch anime, and be active. I love to swim, run, hike, and travel. I also enjoy trying new food, because learning about new dishes and their cultural origins tells you a lot about someone.
