I have 8 years of experience tutoring K-12 in Math, English, Spanish, and Music. I studied Guitar performance and Philosophy at UC Davis and I studied abroad at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. I enjoy playing chess, learning languages, and playing the guitar, banjo, and charango.
My tutoring style involves setting a SMART goal with students and parents so we have something specific to work towards. I always want to encourage students with positivity and interesting lessons so there is a positive attitude towards math. I like to break each subject matter down so that it is understandable and the student understands what they are doing and why. I do adapt to each student's needs but when they struggle, I encourage them by reminding them of their strengths and abilities.
A 5th-grade student came to me towards the end of the school year and mom mentioned that her teacher made negative comments and discouraged her daughter. I worked hard to encourage the student and make her feel better about her abilities in math using tools such as models and drawings to help assist her with word problems. She was able to do well on her End-of-grade exam and made it into an honors class. Mom thanked me for helping her daughter regain her positive attitude towards math.
My hobbies and interests are chess, guitar, music, languages, travel, cooking, and playing with my son.
