I am a certified tutor who specializes in Mathematics. I have a bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and I attempting to get my PhD in Topology (the study of shapes in higher dimensions).
It's hard to describe my teaching style because it does depend on the student. I usually start by asking what the student can tell me about whatever it is they're struggling with, and then address gaps in their knowledge as we come across them. If the student doesn't know where to begin, we'll start at the beginning, or maybe work backward if that works for them. I'm very flexible, and I'll do my best to find the best way to cover each subject for each student!
I had a student who was struggling with math. Math wasn't their thing, and that's fine! However, they needed to pass a certain math class as a prerequisite before they were allowed to take any of the classes they cared about. They had failed the course in the spring, and their class was only available in the fall. We got to work over the summer so they could pass the course during the 6-week summer session for that class, and they passed with flying colors! Now they're on track to never have to take another math class, and just focus on the classes they care about!
It may come as a great shock, but I, the mathematician, am a huge nerd. In my spare time, I will read high-level math books, but I'll also read history books and science books, I also won't say no to a good sci-fi or fantasy book. I play video games (mostly PC and Switch), and thanks to Pokemon Go, I usually will go for 25-50km walks every week.
