I’m an experienced tutor who spent years helping high school students study for their classes with confidence. While I cover many subjects, math is my main focus. I break down tricky concepts and help students build solid skills, from arithmetic basics all the way to advanced calculus. I also have a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the University of Cape Town.
I believe that every student is able to reach their goals - all they need is enough time and expert guidance! I'm a positive and encouraging educator who empowers students to take charge of their own academic journeys. I start by gauging the student's confidence level in each topic and identifying opportunities for growth. My intention is for each student to come away from my sessions feeling accomplished and hopeful!
When I first met Alex, she was barely scraping by in Algebra 2. She was convinced math just "wasn't her thing" and was ready to settle for a passing grade. But I could tell her struggles came more from anxiety and a lack of structure than from any lack of ability. We started focusing on small, achievable goals for each session, building up her confidence with every problem she solved. Soon, she began coming to sessions prepared and motivated, even excited to tackle harder problems. By the end of the semester, Alex had not only turned her grade around but earned an A — and a newfound confidence in her abilities.
I love foraging for wild foods, playing Japanese mahjong with friends, and reading a good book
