I have more than 15 years of experience working with students who range from Preschool all the way up through 12th grade. I have a Master's in Secondary Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. I teach K-12, using engaging, evidence-based teaching strategies. I have a background in Special Education and I am a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor. I am usually successful with engaging students who have emotional and/or behavioral disorders, or other mental health challenges.
I am fun. We will laugh while we are learning. It's an essential part of the process!! I am relatable and try my best to connect what we are learning to your life. I am responsive to your needs. We will begin where you are and go forward the speed best for your learning journey.
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a high school student pass his coursework. He was enrolled in a vocational program and had nearly 100% in all of his car repair coursework, but his English, Math, and Social Studies grades put him in danger of failing. This student and I worked together and found ways to help him remember information for tests. He made it through high school and is working full time in his chosen career!
I love animals. I spend a lot of time taking care of our pets. We have 2 dogs, 6 cats, 2 rabbits, a turtle and a bearded dragon! We also have 3 foster cats that are staying with us temporarily. It's busy at my house. I enjoy reading and watching movies and TV, usually some type of mystery story. I enjoy being outdoors; taking walks in the woods and gardening.
