English was always one of my favorite subjects in school, and it brings me so much joy to be able to tutor and teach it now. I have over 6 years of experience with English tutoring, and I am excited to bring that same love and passion that I have for the subject to my students.
No tutoring sessions are the same, just as no two students are the same. Because of this, I try to tailor each lesson to the student's individual wants and needs. I do so by forming a connection with my students and building a rapport with them beyond only learning. Having personal interests tied into the lessons helps to keep them fun and engaging. I want to highlight my students' strengths and sharpen the areas of improvement. Even if they don't love English, I believe there is something fun within this subject that any student can connect with. I am an empathetic and patient tutor and therefore encourage my students to ask as many questions as needed. And remember to relax! We both want the same goal, and that's your success!
One of my favorite stories is about a student, from another country, who needed to improve her English to get into an English-speaking program for university. At the start of our sessions, she was very shy and reserved, and she did not enjoy all the work that was involved to reach her level. In order to connect, we talked about music and her interests. I used those topics to make lessons more fun for her. For example, I would find a news article regarding a band she was interested in and create reading comprehension and discussion exercises from it. I also helped her to see the importance of these tutoring sessions, and that by taking them seriously she would reach her goals. Due to this her motivation grew and her assignments improved. In the end, she got into the English-speaking program in her home country, and I am very proud of her accomplishments!
Outside of tutoring I really enjoy exploring the world, whether that is traveling to foreign lands or enjoying the nature parks in my area. I also love reading, listening to music, attending festivals, drawing, painting, photography, and gaming.
